Traditional Braces

While traditional braces, also referred to as metal braces, still consist of metal brackets and wires, these are not the uncomfortable braces many adults remember. Modern brackets are smaller and less noticeable, making the patient more comfortable throughout the process. There are also customizable colored bands that enable the patient to express themselves and make the process more fun!

Are Braces Really Necessary?

Some choose to get braces for purely cosmetic reasons but there are also several health benefits in having straighter teeth. Straight teeth are easier to clean, which reduces tooth decay & gingivitis. Correcting bite structure can also make chewing less painful and reduce jaw pain.

At What Age Should My Child Get Braces?

The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that children are seen by an orthodontist at the age of 7. This does not mean they will need any early treatment, but this allows the orthodontist to watch baby teeth come out and permanent teeth erupt. When/if treatment is recommended, they can start treatment at the ideal time. Keep in mind that Braces can also be effective in older teens and adults.

How Long Does My Child Need to Wear Braces?

Average time in braces spans from 1-2 years but this varies greatly based on the growth and severity of the orthodontic issue. Patient diligence can help the process move more quickly. Maintaining good oral hygiene and following close directions from our orthodontic team can keep patients on schedule and get them out of the braces as soon as possible.
